François Molle est ingénieur de l'Ecole Polytechnique, avec une specialisation à l' ENGREF (maintenant AgroParisTech) et un doctorat en sciences de l'eau de l'Université de Montpellier. Il a 35 ans d'expérience en recherche pour le développement dans les domaines comme les petits barrages, la gestion de l'irrigation, la gouvernance des bassins hydrographiques, les politiques de l'eau, la gouvernance des eaux souterraines, les interactions entre sociétés, technologie et environnement, etc, et a travaillé principalement au Brésil, Mali, Asie du Sud-Est, Moyen‐Orient et Afrique du Nord.

Directeur de Recherche à l'IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, France), il a été récemment (2010‐2015) détaché à l'International Water Management Institute en charge du développement des activités de recherche de l'IWMI dans la région Moyen‐Orient et Afrique du Nord. Il est co‐rédacteur en chef de la revue Water Alternatives (www.water‐alternatives.org).

François Molle graduated from Ecole Polytechnique, specialised at ENGREF (now AgroParisTech), and holds a PhD in water sciences from the University of Montpellier. He has 35 years of experience in research for development on topics such as small dams, irrigation system analysis, river basin governance, groundwater governance, water policies, the interaction between societies, technology and the environment, etc. mostly in Brazil, Mali, Southeast Asia, Middle-East and North Africa.

Directeur de Recherche at the IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, France), he was recently (2010-2015) seconded to the International Water Management Institute in charge of developing the research portfolio of IWMI in the Middle-East and North-Africa region. He is co-editor in chief of Water Alternatives journal (www.water-alternatives.org).
